"I boiled rice noodles, and stirred them into a shallow bowl with Dan Dan Spicy Sesame Sauce at the bottom. Topped everything with some sliced green onion. My kids came for dinner and gave me a two thumbs up for this delicious dish. It took mere minutes to prepare and tasted better than anything I’ve ever had at our local Chinese restaurant. Thank you so much for such a delicious product. I served a side of snow peas sauteed in garlic and sesame oil, topped with a bit of soy sauce, plus a mound of ice cold, thinly sliced cucumber that I sprinkled with a small amount of Knorrs flavoring liquid. Everything was yummy."

Not my pawpaw's dan dan
"Seldom do I find a product that surpasses all expectations. That is what happened last year when I went out on a limb and purchased several jars of the Chinese Laundry Dan Dan Sauce. It blew me away! It tasted as close to my pawpaw's as I have ever found. Memories of a young kid in 1960s Taipei, sitting at her kitchen table, with a steaming bowl of noodles, mixed with a dark, scrumptious, deep, mysterious flavor. Something comparable, I have search for ever since. Last year hearing that it sold out very quickly, with bated breath, I ordered several jars (16 oz each), and with the first taste, was as far from being disappointed as one can be. With an inch left in my last remaining jar, I thought to place another order. Need more manna from pawpaw in Heaven. Unwrapping the new jars, I was shocked! It doesn't look anything like what Chinese Laundry used to sell as Dan Dan Sauce. First of all, it is in a 6 oz jar instead of 16 oz, and the color is totally different: a reddish tan brown, instead of the deep dark rich brown of the previous product. And the flavors? Totally different flavor profile than last year's. The original is deep and wide, with a wonderful balance of umami, heat, sweet, and salty--pleasurable, well balanced, and addictive to say the least. The new one? Unbalanced. Thin, almost like a mix of tahini and peanut butter, covered in oil, with hot thrown in. No depth of flavor. No complexity. Having lived and travelled extensively in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, for 72 years, in my view and experience, built for the palette that has no idea what good and proper Asian food is. A total miss, in my book. Hey, Chinese Laundry, why did you "improve" on something that needed no improvement? IMHO"
